To the editor: The tragedy of the Los Angeles fires has been devastating, however within the weeks since a brand new downside looms. I’ve examine it on this paper and on-line, and it nags at my thoughts. (“L.A. recovery czar vents over working for free: ‘I was lied to,’” Feb. 25)

There are numerous points affecting tens of hundreds, however one is rising above all others: Will Steve Soboroff, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass’ hearth restoration czar, manage to pay for? To that finish, I’m kicking off my “SOS” initiative: Save our Steve!

If every of the roughly 10,000 households who misplaced a house in Pacific Palisades and Altadena donates solely $50, we are able to shortly provide you with the $500,000 Soboroff was initially to be paid for 3 months of labor, which he evidently must get by way of the following couple of months. (Donors: Please add a further $50 to cowl my modest wage for organizing this endeavor).

It’s not a lot to ask, and collectively we are able to do it. L.A. robust!

    Andrew Leist, Culver Metropolis

    ..

To the editor: Soboroff was quoted as saying, “You strive spending 35 years out of the center of your life not charging anyone for something, and sending 5 children to Harvard-Westlake.”

All through my total profession as a public college trainer, I like many different academics volunteered with out charging something — and nonetheless managed to coach our youngsters and on a wage that’s a fraction of what Soboroff makes.

    Andrea Brown, San Francisco

    ..

To the editor: The Pacific Palisades rebuilding operations are very complicated, to place it charitably.

Soboroff is the “czar,” though he appears fairly sad about not getting his $500,000.

Developer Rick Caruso has fashioned a committee of business heavyweights to supply who is aware of what enter. Not less than one different comparable committee has been introduced.

The mayor has employed a consulting agency. The scope of its work and remuneration are unknown to the general public.

Are all of those teams going to take path from Soboroff? Will he have the ultimate say on the plan, or will the mayor, Metropolis Council and highly effective Palisades residents take concern with all or a part of it?

It will likely be fascinating to see this fought out within the pages of The Instances.
