To the editor: The letter writers arguing for secularism in the U.S. are right within the sense that faith of any variety has no place in authorities. Nevertheless, I want to take their reasoning a step additional.

The first Modification states partly that “Congress shall make no legislation respecting an institution of faith.” However think about, if you’ll, a “Christian” nation.

Who would decide what sect of Christianity would maintain sway over this idea? By far the biggest Christian sect within the U.S. is Catholicism. I submit that almost all Protestant sects could be apoplectic over this and rightly so.

You’d then, conceivably, have sectarian violence just like that in different nations. One want solely take a look at the Sunni-Shia divide of Islam to appreciate how life in a “Christian” nation would possibly play out.
