To the editor: Can anybody clarify how a seemingly clever particular person equivalent to Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass can even have such remarkably poor judgment? (“After critics blast move to pay L.A. wildfire recovery czar $500,000, he’ll do it for free,” Feb. 8)

Steve Soboroff, appointed to steer town of L.A.’s restoration effort after final month’s fires, seems to be a profitable businessman. But Bass authorized his wage of almost half one million {dollars}, to be funded totally by charitable organizations, for 3 months’ work. Did it not happen to her that the charitable donations for that wage ought to go towards helping all these people who’ve misplaced each single factor of their lives?

Finally, Bass reversed course and mentioned Soboroff would work without spending a dime. However I’m unsure what was worse — Bass at first approving the wage, or Soboroff accepting it.

Speak about a race to the underside!
