    Journalist, American among 3 prisoners freed from Belarus

    Belarusian journalist Andrei Kuznechyk and an unnamed American citizen had been among the many three prisoners launched in Belarus on Wednesday, in response to officers.

    Kuznechyk, who U.S. officers had dubbed a political prisoner, was launched after being detained for greater than three years, in response to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

    The phrases of the deal and the identification of the American citizen weren’t instantly clear.

    “This can be a joyous day for Andrey, his spouse, Alesya, and their two younger kids. After greater than three years aside, this household is collectively once more because of President [Donald] Trump,” RFE/RL President and CEO Stephen Capus stated in an announcement.

    “We’re additionally grateful to Secretary Rubio and his crew, and to the Lithuanian authorities for his or her assist,” Capus added.

    Kuznechyk’s launch comes a day after American schoolteacher Marc Fogel returned to the U.S. after being launched from Russia.

    Kuznechyk was initially sentenced in November 2021 to 10 days in jail on hooliganism costs, which he rejected on the time, in response to RFE/RL.

    When he was set to be launched, Belarusian authorities saved him imprisoned and added a further cost of forming an extremist group, in response to the outlet.

    In 2022, a Belarus court docket sentenced him to 6 years in jail.

    Along with Kuznechyk and the unnamed American citizen; Alena Maushuk, who was detained in 2020 and convicted of collaborating in “mass dysfunction” in a pro-democracy demonstration was launched Wednesday and Anastasia Nuhfer, one other American citizen detained in 2024 was freed in current weeks.
