To the editor: Whereas Karen Bass proved to be an efficient legislator when serving as a consultant within the U.S. Congress, being an administrator as L.A. mayor was clearly not her energy, as she was unable to supply the management required to take care of the complicated issues of a significant metropolis. Nithya Raman enters as somebody with unpredictable, comparatively unknown capacities for dealing with the challenges that lay forward (“Nithya Raman defeats Bass to become next L.A. mayor,” Nov. 5).

With guarded optimism, let’s hope that she will be able to develop the stature to deal with the place, exhibit sensible judgment in being a problem-solver, and encourage confidence in her management skills. Town wants — and deserves — it!

    ..

To the editor: Bass’ defeat for a second time period as mayor of Los Angeles was extra of a strategic miscalculation. In a time when town wished Democratic management, her marketing campaign during the last months turned her into the extra Republican candidate within the race. In a time when town sought an outsider, she ran as an insider. And, in a time when primary affordability and area people points have been on the forefront, she forgot to deal with sidewalks and potholes.

I’ve appreciated her work over the previous 4 years however welcome Raman, who higher understood what the neighborhood and metropolis wished right now.

    Mark Lucas, Sherman Oaks

    ..

To the editor: The New York Times referred to Mayor-elect Raman as a “Harvard-educated coverage professional.” If it have been some other publication, I’d have taken it as a diss, the label needing solely “radical-left” to be full.

The “effectivity professional” stuff, equivalent to combining metropolis departments to save cash and authorities headcount — the sorts of issues you may research at Harvard — must be the simple half.

As I do with all who’re or “caucus with” Democrats, nevertheless, I urge Raman, who acquired each a vote and a marketing campaign contribution from me, to not over-read Tuesday’s outcome and to not neglect that Angelenos, like most People, are essentially conservative at coronary heart. A rejection of current actuality is just not essentially an endorsement of any specific alternate actuality.

    David Van Iderstine, Los Angeles

    ..

To the editor: How thrilling to learn in regards to the mayoral election outcomes on Friday morning. Not as a result of my chosen candidate received or misplaced, however as a result of each candidates have been trustworthy, respectable folks with considerate approaches to governing. I felt such aid in realizing that whoever prevailed within the mayor’s race can be an trustworthy dealer whose concern is sweet authorities. I had forgotten what that appears like!
