To the editor: I’m sufficiently old to recollect once we introduced transistor radios to high school in the course of the World Collection, listening to the play-by-play — hopefully with Vin Scully on the microphone. The video games at the moment (the Nineteen Sixties) all the time passed off in the course of the day. We’d conceal the radio in a pocket, run the speaker wire up a sleeve, and place the tiny earphone in an ear with a purpose to hear and, in fact, not take note of the instructor.
Invariably, the radios have been confiscated for the day and it was again to the job at hand: studying. With that in thoughts, in the case of Mexico banning cellphones in faculties, I say go for it (“Mexico bans cellphones in schools, despite opposition from parents worried about violence,” Nov. 2)!
