To the editor: This text states, “Supporters stated this week’s motion will create a ‘domino impact’ for different municipalities” (“Los Angeles approves ban on oil production after years-long fight,” Oct. 28).
It’s a reminder that Culver Metropolis and Los Angeles County have been already main the way in which. Years earlier than the town of Los Angeles authorized its newest oil phaseout ordinance, each jurisdictions took concrete steps to finish oil extraction.
As a former Culver Metropolis mayor, I’m notably proud that our Metropolis Council adopted a decision in October 2020 declaring its intent to section out oil drilling, and voted in October 2021 to ban new drilling and require the closure of present oil operations by Dec. 31, 2029.
That September, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to ban new oil wells and section out present manufacturing in unincorporated communities, together with the Inglewood Oil Subject and surrounding Baldwin Hills.
Bravo to the town of Los Angeles for becoming a member of Culver Metropolis and L.A. County in defending residents’ well being, security and high quality of life.
