The Milwaukee Brewers won’t spend prefer it.
Their roster will not be loaded with future Corridor of Famers.
However they’re, with out query, one of many prime present superpowers in Main League Baseball. There may be no denying that place following their 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday evening, securing the primary World Sequence championship in franchise historical past.
They gained the sequence in 5 video games, finishing one of the dominant playoff runs the league has seen within the divisional playoff period.
Brewers cement themselves amongst Main League Baseball’s largest powers
The Brewers will get their flowers for this season, and they are going to be acknowledged for the nice group they’ve been from the very starting of the 2026 season.
They gained a league-best 103 video games in the course of the common season.
They went 11-2 within the playoffs, together with 8-1 in opposition to the Rays and Los Angeles Dodgers, the groups that have been second and third within the Main Leagues in wins.
There was nothing comfortable about this run. All the pieces they did was at an elite stage, and in opposition to one of the best groups in baseball.
It is usually not a brand new growth. They’ve been the most effective groups in baseball for years.
They’ve made the playoffs in eight of the previous 9 seasons, together with every of the previous 4 and gained six division titles in that stretch.
Going again to the beginning of the 2022 season, no group in baseball has gained extra video games within the common season than them.
Not the Dodgers.
Not the Atlanta Braves.
Not the New York Yankees.
Not the Philadelphia Phillies.
No one.
They’ve been doing this for years, they usually have been doing it persistently. They only by no means had the postseason pennant or World Sequence {hardware} to justify their place with a group just like the Dodgers.
Now they do.
What makes the Brewers’ run of dominance (and let’s be trustworthy, that’s what it has been) is the best way they’ve completed it. Whereas all people else in baseball has been attempting to hit residence runs with giants within the batter’s field, they did it by way of contact and the shortest roster within the league. Don’t take that as them being anti-analytics or some throw-back membership. They’ve one of many largest analytics departments within the league, and did one of the efficient sports activities methods there may be, particularly in a league the place discovering low-cost expertise is important for a group of their place — they zigged when all people else zagged. That may work. Particularly if you happen to do it proper.
Additionally they did it by fully overhauling their roster.
Return to that 2022 season simply 5 years in the past, for instance. That group gained 86 video games and missed the playoffs (the one yr out of the previous 9 that the Brewers did miss). There are solely 4 gamers from that group nonetheless remaining. From simply 5 years in the past. They fully overhauled every thing on a restricted finances, which is a fraction of what the highest groups do, and proceed rolling.
Actually good gamers like Corbin Burnes, Devon Williams, Josh Hader, Freddy Peralta and Willy Adames all left or have been traded. It didn’t matter. The pipeline and roster administration simply stored discovering gamers that would slide proper in and maintain contributing.
Having a participant like Jacob Misiorowski emerge as a famous person and one of the best pitcher in baseball actually helped and has undoubtedly been part of that, however it’s extra than simply him.
It’s a top-to-bottom roster with no actual weaknesses, which is a testomony to the job basic supervisor Matt Arnold and his workers have completed rebuilding and retooling the group and Main League roster.
It’s an identification and strategy that works for them and matches up with anyone in baseball.
It’s discovering and creating a bullpen that may shorten video games by 4 innings.
It’s having a supervisor in Pat Murphy who persistently pushes the suitable buttons.
All of that collectively makes them one of the best group in baseball. They’ve the trophy to show it now. They’ve already been right here for years. They’re most likely going to be right here for fairly some time, as effectively.
