To the editor: I simply returned Thursday evening from a six-week journey that took me to Vancouver, Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Every of those cities have handled their housing disaster by build up. Every is a forest of 30-50-story residential condominium towers.
Land is scarce in Asian cities. Land is scarce in Los Angeles (“Bass vs. Raman: Who can make housing more affordable?,” Oct. 16). We have to recover from our low-rise mentality.
We’ve got an instance of what will be completed with the Wilshire Hall on the Westside. For my part, Wilshire Boulevard from downtown to the ocean needs to be full of 30-40-story condominium buildings. Now, the trick is to present the builders sufficient incentive to make them reasonably priced.
