To the editor: Contributing author Jon Duffy hits the nail on the pinnacle (“Public execution? This really is who we are,” Oct. 13). On one hand, we’re a nation that aspires to excessive beliefs, as mirrored within the Declaration of Independence, the preamble to the Structure and the numerous good issues that we now have finished over our two and a half centuries of existence. On the opposite, an enormous fraction of our residents are consumed by bigotry, xenophobia and a want to trample anybody whom they take into account beneath them.

The end result appears to be a relentless battle between decency and destruction. And the worst half is that the harmful ones, like Protection Secretary Pete Hegseth, declare to be on the facet of decency (regardless of what he says, he doesn’t symbolize Christian values by any cheap definition).

Sadly, the one remedy we now have is on the voting sales space. It’s time to acknowledge that the selection will not be between place A and place B; it’s between standing up for the nation’s beliefs or supporting a authorities that has taken the evils of tribalism as a name to destroy anybody who has a shred of humanity left.

    Geoff Kuenning, Claremont

    ..

To the editor: I take umbrage with the headline of Duffy’s op-ed.

This isn’t who we’re. That is who at present’s Republican Celebration, spending billions of American taxpayers’ {dollars}, is. I’ve by no means been this indignant at my nation.

    Barry Greenfield, West Hollywood
