To the editor: Whereas Jim Crouch has devoted himself to planting oak bushes to assist the surroundings, San Luis Obispo County goes in the wrong way (“California is losing its oaks. One man is planting 10,000, including in tree-scarce Altadena,” Sept. 19). The county supervisors have accepted the Dana Reserve, a proposed large improvement in Nipomo the place there are plans to destroy practically 3,000 mature oak bushes and accompanying wildlife habitat over 288 acres. Nipomo, a small rural city situated on a mesa, has a particular surroundings offering an extremely distinctive habitat that features extremely endangered vegetation and delicate habitats. The mitigation plan doesn’t mitigate; you can not reproduce this habitat elsewhere.

Most of the residents of Nipomo don’t want this improvement for a variety of causes, however the firstly is that we can’t afford to lose this forest and the biodiversity it offers. It’s obscene that at the present time, hundreds of oak bushes and accompanying wildlife habitat are given a dying sentence by a vote of a handful of individuals.

A few of us didn’t develop up watching “FernGully” for nothing. We’ve got to battle for the character, for with out it, we’re nothing. San Luis Obispo County supervisors, are you listening?

    Jordan DeVault, Nipomo

To the editor: Kudos to the Los Angeles Occasions for a front-page article about constructive, feel-good neighborhood information. We want extra of this and fewer about stabbings, shootings, sexual abuse, drug use, and so forth., about which few of us can do something instantly, and which might encourage perpetrators. Studying about Re-Oak and the necessity for volunteers and monetary assist for this terrific environmental enterprise makes us conscious that a lot might be achieved on the native stage to boost many lives.

Certainly, there are numerous related endeavors being undertaken regionally and nationally which are price reporting. Let’s encourage readers to search for tasks to assist as an alternative of bemoaning the unhappy state of society portrayed by all of the destructive articles.
