Letters to the Editor: Without defense attorneys, the American legal system doesn’t work

To the editor: It’s a tough job being a protection legal professional. Even at prestigious American universities, ill-considered invective could also be directed at protection attorneys, similar to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s counsel, Melanie T. Partow, and Harvey Weinstein’s counsel, Ronald S. Sullivan Jr. (“UCLA chancellor rebukes law school event with 9/11 ‘mastermind’ attorney; organizers push back,” Sept. 12)

The American authorized system is dependent upon protection counsel as a lot because it is dependent upon prosecutors, juries and judges. With out all of those parts working collectively, American courts can and do misfire, as they did within the case of the Central Park 5 in New York Metropolis in 1989.

Our society must thank protection attorneys. The fitting to competent counsel is likely one of the best privileges afforded to our residents.

    Stuart Gallant, Belmont, Mass.
