To the editor: The superbly written piece by visitor contributor Mallory McDuff clearly ties collectively how nature helps people adapt to alter (“The trail imparts lessons to aging hikers, and they to us,” Aug. 15). Sadly, there are numerous individuals who have by no means skilled nature in a real wilderness setting.

What fortunate youngsters McDuff and her brother had been to have dad and mom who themselves hiked the Appalachian Path, the Pacific Crest Path and far of the Continental Divide Path, solely to sadly lose them each in tragic bicycle accidents two years aside. Their dad and mom’ love of the wilderness and their power had been clearly guiding lights for his or her youngsters, they usually left a tremendous legacy.

To anybody studying this: Whether or not you’re a father or mother or not, please take a while out of your busy life to share memorable moments within the wilderness with these you care about. The reminiscences will final a lifetime. Consider me, I do know.
