To the editor: When my household misplaced our dwelling and belongings within the Eaton fireplace, we have been completely devastated. When our insurer State Farm provided us lower than half of what it will price to rebuild our dwelling, we have been left in shock. Then we have been instructed that we needed to itemize each single merchandise, all the way down to the final pen and paper clip, to obtain compensation. This can be a course of survivors will let you know is significantly retraumatizing.
Now our governor, somebody I’ve personally supported and had supposed to help for president, is working behind closed doorways on wildfire payments — seemingly negotiating a plan to restrict Southern California Edison’s legal responsibility and make it much more troublesome for victims to recuperate and rebuild (“Senator ‘deeply troubled’ by utility threats,” Aug. 12). This can be a utility that has seen income improve by billions in 2025 alone, has paid its executives millions in bonuses and has supplied shareholders increased dividends.
Survivors are being handled just like the unhealthy guys for merely asking for what’s truthful, an ask that may by no means totally compensate us for the destruction and trauma inflicted upon us. It will likely be made all the more serious if our final line of protection in our restoration, our elected officers, promote us out to the perpetrator: Southern California Edison.

To the editor: This text states that electrical firm executives are making “threats to take motion to guard their shareholders.” There you could have it. Shareholders are extra vital than the general public.
The utilities are given a monopoly for the only real objective of serving the general public. They’re assured a revenue for his or her service. These threats are prima facie proof that the utilities have violated and can proceed to violate the settlement they’ve with the general public. It’s now incumbent upon the Legislature to take motion to pressure the utilities to supply service that advantages the individuals of California.
