JAKARTA, Indonesia — A strong magnitude 7.7 quake has struck off the coast of Indonesia, the U.S. Geological Survey stated.
The quake hit Indonesia’s Flores area with a depth of 10 kilometers at 5:58 a.m. Saturday Indonesia time. It is epicenter was 68 kms (42 miles) north-northwest of town of Ende.
Indonesia, an unlimited archipelago of greater than 17,000 islands, is liable to earthquakes and volcanic exercise due to its location on the “Ring of Fireplace,” an arc of volcanoes and fault traces within the Pacific Basin.
