    France’s constitutional authority strikes down social media ban for under-15s

    PARIS: France’s high constitutional authority on Friday (Aug 14) struck down a ban on social media entry for kids beneath 15, dealing a blow to the laws championed by President Emmanuel Macron.

    The Constitutional Council discovered that Article 1 of the laws “constitutes an infringement that’s neither applicable, crucial, nor proportionate” to the liberty of expression and communication of these beneath 15.

    Macron had thanked members of parliament for backing the laws and pledged to implement it by September.

    After the ruling, the Elysee mentioned Macron had tasked Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu with engaged on a brand new “legally strong draft” of the laws.

    Lecornu must work “as rapidly as attainable” on a draft that takes under consideration each the Constitutional Council’s ruling and the European regulatory framework, the Elysee Palace mentioned.

    The presidency mentioned Macron’s willpower to see the reform applied remained undiminished.

    A rising variety of nations are taking steps to limit social media entry amid multiplying warnings over its dangerous results on youngsters.
