    Poland summons Russian ambassador after missile incident

    WARSAW: Poland summoned the Russian ambassador on Friday (Jul 31) and handed him a protest observe after a Russian missile landed on Polish territory, a international ministry spokesperson mentioned.

    Warsaw confirmed on Friday that the projectile, which got here down in japanese Poland on Thursday, was a Russian Kh-101 missile. The incident was the most recent in a sequence of airspace incursions on NATO’s japanese flank which have fueled fears that the struggle in Ukraine might spill over the alliance’s borders.

    “We conveyed to the ambassador our unequivocal condemnation of hostile actions directed in opposition to the safety of a sovereign state and its residents,” Overseas Ministry Spokesperson Maciej Wewior instructed reporters.

    “We demand an finish to actions that endanger the lives and security of residents and, on the identical time, pose a threat of an aviation catastrophe.”

    The Russian embassy in Warsaw didn’t instantly reply to an emailed request for remark.

    Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz mentioned earlier on Friday that Warsaw had established the missile that landed in Poland was produced close to Moscow within the second quarter of this 12 months.

    “Which means Russia is utilizing newly produced missiles to strike Ukraine,” he wrote on X. “It confirms stories that Russian wartime stockpiles have been depleted.”
