    Gaza ceasefire talks see rare progress, sources say

    CAIRO: Talks between mediators and Hamas leaders in Cairo on implementing a US-brokered Gaza peace plan have made uncommon progress, sources near the trouble stated on Thursday (Jul 30), though an Israeli official stated proposed phrases weren’t passable.

    Earlier, Israeli strikes killed at least six Palestinians in Gaza on Thursday, together with two youngsters, medics stated.

    A Hamas official and a diplomat near the Cairo talks stated discussions have been “constructive” and “making progress“.

    The official stated the progress can be examined by Israel’s response and whether or not this allowed a broad accord to be reached.

    Nevertheless, the Israeli official, who declined to be recognized, stated Israel had rejected a proposal.

    “Israel calls for the entire disarmament of Hamas, together with the elimination of weapons from Gaza and the entire demilitarisation of the Strip as a precondition for any course of,” the official stated.

    “The 15-point doc in query doesn’t present a passable response to those calls for and Israel conveyed its objections.”

    Russian Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Anna Evstigneeva advised the Safety Council on Tuesday {that a} roadmap ready by Trump’s Board of Peace envoy for Gaza, Nikolay Mladenov, had to date failed to realize the assist of Israel and Hamas, with the demilitarization of Gaza remaining the primary stumbling block.

    The diplomat near the talks stated the negotiations have been making progress towards a roadmap that will see all heavy and light-weight weapons in Gaza decommissioned.

    Hamas leaders are holding talks with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey on the second part of President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan, as offered to them by his Board of Peace, which oversees its implementation.

    The plan requires a surge in humanitarian assist, governance by a civilian Palestinian administration, the disarmament of Hamas, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the deployment of a world drive to assist preserve safety.

    However progress has stalled in earlier months.
