Home Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan issued a prison referral in opposition to former Particular Counsel Jack Smith on Wednesday for allegedly making “willfully and deliberately false statements” when testifying before Congress last December.

“The Committee on the Judiciary writes to refer robust proof that seems to point out Jack Smith, former Particular Counsel, knowingly made false statements throughout his December 17, 2025 deposition,” Jordan wrote in a letter despatched to Appearing Lawyer Basic Todd Blanche.

Former Justice Division particular counsel Jack Smith testifies earlier than the Home Judiciary Committee on the Capitol in Washington, Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026.

Attorneys for Smith didn’t instantly reply for remark.

High Judiciary Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin slammed the GOP-led prison referral — calling it “baseless” and “vindictive.”
