    UK announces coalition will send Ukraine 30,000 new drones

    LONDON: A world coalition to acquire unmanned aerial automobiles (UAVs) for Ukraine, co-led by the UK and Latvia, will ship 30,000 newly-ordered drones to Kyiv, Britain’s Ministry of Defence stated on Thursday (Jan 9).

    The “drone functionality coalition” – shaped in early 2024 to ship units to Ukraine – has positioned an order price £45 million (US$55 million) for the UAVs, the ministry famous.

    It didn’t element when the drones can be dispatched to Kyiv.

    Funding for the 30,000 new UAVs through the coalition comes from the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, Latvia and Sweden.

    British Defence Secretary John Healey introduced the order as he visited Germany’s Ramstein Air Base for a gathering of Ukraine’s allies, the place he additionally held talks with outgoing United States counterpart Lloyd Austin.

    “The fierce braveness of the Ukrainian individuals continues to encourage the world,” Healey stated in remarks launched by his ministry.

    “This assembly of greater than 50 nations sends a transparent message to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin concerning the worldwide group’s unwavering assist for Ukraine.”
