To the editor: Aiding and abetting legal exercise has by no means been an outlined mission of our army — up till now (“U.S. military leaders are enabling Trump’s lawlessness,” June 16). What People and the world are witnessing is a staggering stage of institutional acquiescence favoring President Trump’s relentless authoritarian designs on our republic. Name it what you’ll — cowardice or rampant careerism — however the leaders of our armed forces have failed us.

Tragically, they don’t seem to be alone of their AWOL standing. The army is only one establishment of many who has not adhered to its pledge to defend and defend the U.S. Structure. Each homes of Congress and the Supreme Court docket have been acutely derelict in not upholding their oath of workplaces.

That is how fascism succeeds. The bulwark of a free society needs to be governmental our bodies that stand up to the onslaught of a would-be tyrant. In the event that they recede from their obligation, all liberty is misplaced.
